Sargent Leads The Way In Barber Practice 1

Photo: Fabian Lagunas/SRO Tom Sargent topped the opening practice session of the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS weekend at Barber Motorsports Park after setting an insurmountable benchmark time early in Friday’s session. Sargent shot to the top of the times on his sixth lap early in first practice in his Pro-Am class No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, reeling off a session-best time of 1:21.357 before eventually handing the car off to co-driver Kyle Washington. Steady improvements during the hour-long session saw Mikael Grenier climb the order to finish just 0.034 seconds off of Sargent’s pace in the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo he shares with Michai Stephens. The Mercedes-AMG factory driver set the fastest Pro class time of the session. BHA to Join Forces with PR1/Mathiasen for LMP2 Effort

The team, to be known as Bryan Herta Autosport with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, will field the No. 52 Oreca 07 Gibson, with drivers yet to be confirmed. The news comes a week after BHA was confirmed as the first LMP2 entrant for the WeatherTech Championship next year. The Bobby Oergel-led PR1/Mathiasen squad, which operated Inter Europol Competition’s LMP2 team last year, is a five-time class championship-winning organization. “PR1/Mathiasen has always taken pride in competing at the front of LMP2, and this partnership is built to do exactly that,” said Oergel. “Bryan Herta Autosport brings depth and resources that complement our program. “We have an aligned, high-performance team structure to contend for wins and a championship. Photo: Ford Performance Will Lucas is setting his sights on a podium finish as he steps up to Mustang Challenge for this weekend’s event at Circuit of the Americas, joining Paley Motorsport for the series as it forms part of the support bill for the FIA World Endurance Championship. The 21-year-old will pilot the No. 26 Ford Mustang Dark Horse R for the pair of 45-minute races, forming part of a 16-car field for the penultimate round of the season. Lucas joins the Mustang Challenge grid having thus far enjoyed a fruitful campaign in the Mustang Cup series, taking seven races in the new-for-2025, USAC sanctioned championship. Nearly 100 man hours were put into building up a new car at Multimatic’s shop in Mooresville, N.C., where both Scott, co-driver Eric Powell and three of the team’s mechanics worked to tear down the damaged car from Race 1 at Road America and assemble components around a new Mustang GT3 chassis. “Multimatic was amazing in letting us use one of their garage bays to build the new car up,” Dollahite told Sportscar365. “We’ve been in North Carolina. Sargeant Has “No Long-Term Goal” Ahead of Racing Return

Photo: MPS Agency Logan Sargeant has downplayed making any long-term commitments beyond his recently confirmed return to racing in PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports’ LMP2 entry in the final two IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship rounds, admitting that he’s “only looking at these next two races” for the time being. The 23-year-old Floridian, who made 36 Formula 1 starts between 2023-24, will make his WeatherTech Championship debut in next month’s Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before closing out the season at Motul Petit Le Mans in PR1/Mathiasen’s No. 52 Oreca 07 Gibson alongside co-drivers Benjamin Pedersen and Naveen Rao. Cadillac, Porsche Get Biggest BoP Hits for COTA

Confirmed in bulletin from the FIA World Endurance Championship on Wednesday, the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo-winning Cadillac has been handed a 19 kg increase in minimum weight, while the Porsche receives 12 kgs of additional weight since the last round in Brazil. It means the Porsche is now the heaviest Hypercar in the field, at 1065 kg. While the Cadillac loses 5 kW (6.7 horsepower) in first-stage power levels below 250 km/h, the Porsche gets an even more drastic decrease, to the tune of 13 kW (17.4 hp).  Both cars, however, received slight increases in second-stage power, at 0.9 percent and 2.5 percent respectively.
