Dollahite Credits “Never Quit” Attitude in Mustang GT3 Rebuild

Dollahite Racing is ready to go with a new Ford Mustang GT3 chassis in this weekend’s GT World Challenge America powered by AWS event at Barber Motorsports Park to keep its Am class title hopes alive after what’s been a “never quit” attitude from the team according to Scott Dollahite.

Nearly 100 man hours were put into building up a new car at Multimatic’s shop in Mooresville, N.C., where both Scott, co-driver Eric Powell and three of the team’s mechanics worked to tear down the damaged car from Race 1 at Road America and assemble components around a new Mustang GT3 chassis.

“Multimatic was amazing in letting us use one of their garage bays to build the new car up,” Dollahite told Sportscar365.

“We’ve been in North Carolina. We didn’t go home. It was me and a couple of mechanics. Eric also came.

“We’ve been there for the past few weeks just grinding it out and getting it ready. It was ten-hour days just getting this thing ready to go, and we did it.

“We never quit and kept our heads down.

“Everybody over at Multimatic and Ford Racing have done a really good job at just building the car in general. They’re rock-solid cars.

“There wasn’t much time in between Road America and Barber. It was a grind to be here, but we’re so happy to be here and to keep the championship alive.”

Dollahite, who had the race-ending accident at The Kink at Road America in damp conditions, said they didn’t immediately know if the car sustained terminal chassis damage.

“I honestly didn’t really feel that much in the car,” he said. “After looking at the chassis, it’s really not that bad. It’s a testament to the technology and the safety that Ford Racing has in the cars.”

While there are plans to eventually repair the damaged Mustang GT3 chassis from Road America, Dollahite’s newly built car ran for the first time in this morning’s test session at Barber without any issues.

“We had a great session,” said Powell. “Nothing went wrong. There were no weird anomalies or anything.”

Dollahite added: “Everything’s going according to plan at the moment. The car felt great. We had no issues. We’re just going to improve from here.”

Dollahite: Turner Lifeline at Road America “Saved Our Championship”

While the AF Corse duo of Ozz Negri and Jay Schreibman now lead the Am class championship standings by 10.5 points over Scott Dollahite, the gap could have been insurmountable had Dollahite Racing not been able to start the second race at Road America in order to score points.

This was made possible from Turner Motorsport, which lent its backup GT America powered by AWS BMW M4 GT3 EVO to the Texas-based team to keep its title hopes alive.

“They were awesome,” said Dollahite. “The way they came to help us out, just the sportsmanship of everybody over there. From [Will] Turner and the Rothberg family, it was huge for us.

“It saved our championship. We’re very, very grateful to them.”

Dollahite said the goals are simple this weekend, as well as next month’s double points-paying Indianapolis 8 Hour presented by AWS.

“We’ve got to win,” he said. “That’s really what it boils down to. We need to win this weekend and we need to win at Indy. But we have the team and support to be able to do that.”

Dollahite also credited the level of support Ford and Multimatic have been able to provide over the last few weeks.

“It’s been crucial in us being here,” he said. “We wouldn’t even be here if we didn’t get some help from them. A huge thanks goes out to them and we’ll make them proud this weekend.”
