De La Torre: Low Grid Spot Chance to “Show My Racecraft”

Image
Photo: Lamborghini Squadra Corse Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America champion Elias De La Torre says the deciding race of the Monza Lamborghini World Finals will be an “opportunity to show my racecraft” as he will attempt to fight through from 13th on the grid. De La Torre and TR3 Racing teammate Dennis Lind led throughout Saturday’s opening Pro/Pro-Am contest after Lind had qualified on pole. However, the second qualifying session was far trickier for De La Torre and he will therefore start the crucial race from the seventh row. He was delighted to be able to bounce back from that disappointment by taking the opening victory, particularly as Nicolas Stati initially closed on him before De La Torre pulled clear again in the final laps. “I struggled a little bit in qualifying and felt I let everyone down a bit but thankfully we were able to recover,” De La Torre told Sportscar365. “I learned a bit from Dennis over the period in between (qual...

Lind, De La Torre Lead Throughout Pro/Pro-Am Opener

Image
Photo: Lamborghini Squadra Corse TR3 Racing pair Dennis Lind and Elias De La Torre took a lights-to-flag victory in the opening Pro/Pro-Am race of the Monza Lamborghini World Finals event. Lind had qualified the No. 129 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 on pole but was unable to pull away in the opening stages only eking out a 1.9-second lead by the mandatory stops. But De La Torre was able to emerge from the pits 4.5 seconds ahead and the Super Trofeo North America champion kept the lead to the flag, despite Nicolas Stati closing the gap to around 2.5 seconds at one stage. Lind was untroubled at the start staying ahead of Brendon Leitch in the No. 70 Leipert Motorsport machine that had already been victorious in the European championship during the Monza week. But it was an eventful first couple of laps for Giano Taurino who triggered chaos at the first chicane at the start and then was hit by European champion Simone Iaquinta on the next tour. Lind continued to lead after ...

Auto Sport Racing Service driver Lewandowski has twice claimed World Finals titles in the past, but these were remarkably his first poles at the event. He set a blistering pace in the first qualifying session to post a 1:47.087 that was almost exactly a second faster than anyone else managed. His nearest rival was Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Am champion Renaud Kuppens aboard the No. 46 Micanek Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, who posted a 1:48.072 right at the end of the session to secure second. Third fastest was the best of the North American competitors, Gabriel Holguin aboard the No. 145 Precision Performance Motorsports car, while fourth went to North American champion Staab’s sister entry. The pole margin in LB Cup was slightly closer in Q1 as Donovan Privitelio set the pace with a 1:48.343 that good enough ...

Champion De La Torre Seeks to Build Lamborghini Career

Image
Photo: TR3 Racing Newly-crowned Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America champion Elias De La Torre is targeting a future relationship with the Italian manufacturer as he seeks to follow in the footsteps of TR3 Racing teammate Dennis Lind. De La Torre claimed the title with a race to spare after dominating the opening contest at Monza following a supreme opening stint by polesitter Lind, the duo finishing over 16 seconds clear of the field at the wheel of the No. 129 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2. This was achieved in just De La Torre’s fourth season of racing and he now wants to emulate Lind by becoming a factory Lamborghini driver in the future. His first step towards that will come next month as he has secured a place in Lamborghini’s Young Driver Program Shootout to determine which emerging talent the brand will support moving forward. “It’s only my fourth year racing and it’s a pretty good way to end it,” De La Torre told Sportscar365. “H...
