Andrzej Lewandowski has taken pole for both of the Am/LB Cup races of the Lamborghini World Finals at Monza.
Auto Sport Racing Service driver Lewandowski has twice claimed World Finals titles in the past, but these were remarkably his first poles at the event.
He set a blistering pace in the first qualifying session to post a 1:47.087 that was almost exactly a second faster than anyone else managed.
His nearest rival was Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Am champion Renaud Kuppens aboard the No. 46 Micanek Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, who posted a 1:48.072 right at the end of the session to secure second.
Third fastest was the best of the North American competitors, Gabriel Holguin aboard the No. 145 Precision Performance Motorsports car, while fourth went to North American champion Staab’s sister entry.
The pole margin in LB Cup was slightly closer in Q1 as Donovan Privitelio set the pace with a 1:48.343 that good enough for sixth overall and was six-tenths faster than Rocky T Bolduc, who narrowly missed out on taking the North American class title on Friday.
Third fastest was then Canadian Leipert Motorsport driver Fred Roberts, a further four-tenths back.
Q2 was much closer and, although Lewandowski again topped the times, his fastest lap of 1:47.197 was slightly slower than he managed earlier and just 0.032 seconds quicker than Staab.
The pair had continually traded provisional pole, while Stephane Lemeret aboard the No. 27 CMR machine was third, only 0.164 seconds adrift of Lewandowski.
Holguin again had another solid qualifying performance as he completed the top-four a further tenth back.
Bolduc set the quickest time in LB Cup this time around, his 1:48.759 good enough for 11th overall and was set before he struck the barriers at the first chicane.
The No. 166 Forty7 Motorsports car of Christopher Koebbe was second quickest, three tenths adrift, while the Scuderia Villorba Corse entry of Claude-Yves Gosselin was third in class.
There was a late red flag in the final seconds of the session when Nicholas Groat went off at the second Lesmo, which prevented any further improvements.
