Ferrari Reveals New Track Day 296 GT Modificata

Ferrari has revealed a new track day-only 296 GT Modificata that is an extreme version of its 296 GT3 Evo and is designed for use with its exclusive Club Competizioni GT program.

The 296 GT Modificata takes inspiration from the revised GT3 car that was introduced this year and features a 2.9-liter V6 engine capable of producing 537 kW of power at 7500rpm.

The tailpipes of the engine have been modified specifically for this car while new drive ratios have been developed for the six-speed sequential gearbox with carbon clutch.

There has also been significant tweaks to the aerodynamics compared to the race car it is based upon with a new front wing, or “Slotted Splitter,” designed to generate more downforce while a modified rear wing has been created that includes endplates inspired by the Ferrari 499P Hypercar, which also has a Modificata version.

It is believed that not being governed by GT3 regulations will enable the 296 GT Modificata to lap the Fiorano circuit around three seconds faster than the GT3 Evo machine.

Other changes include new front brake discs and the car being a two-seater design.

“The two-seat configuration also lets the driver take part in track days with an instructor for an even more complete driving experience, benefitting from the tips and guidance given by the coach in real time during timed sessions,” explained Ferrari.

The 296 GT Modificata was digitally launched during this weekend’s Ferrari Racing Days event at the Hungaroring, where its Ferrari Challenge Europe series was in action.

The car is due to be first seen in public at Finali Mondiali at Barcelona next month and “very limited” numbers are set to be built.

Ferrari’s statement about the new car added: “The 296 GT Modificata is intended solely for track day use and participation in the events of the Ferrari Club Competizioni GT, the program created to offer Ferrari customers an exclusive member-only experience on some of the world’s most prestigious circuits.

“Purchasing the 296 GT Modificata includes participation in two years – or 12 rounds – of this program, offering owners the opportunity for a unique experience on a selection of circuits differing in layout and technical characteristics.”

These circuits include European venues such as Jerez, Misano, Paul Ricard and Spa as well as other tracks located much further afield like Fuji and Indianapolis.
