DeLong Quickest in Opening Practice at Barber

Parker DeLong set the pace in the opening Pirelli GT4 America practice session of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.

DeLong, in the No. 131 Advance Motorsports McLaren Artura GT4, reeled off a chart-topping 1:28.642 lap time, edging out the fellow Silver class No. 98 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO of Josh Green by 0.402 seconds.

Marc Miller made a last-lap improvement to put the No. 39 Dome Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 third on the overall time charts and quickest in Pro-Am, bumping Matheus Leist to fourth No. 47 Nolasport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

Tyler McQuarrie completed the overall top-five and was third quickest in Pro-Am, in his No. 38 BimmerWorld BMW.

ACI Motorsports driver Alex Garcia was quickest in the Am class in his BMW that he shares with his brother Michael, setting the 17th quickest overall time.

The 45-minute session, which saw 30 of the 31 competitors take part, ran without any red flags.

VPX Motorsport’s Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Evo was the only car not to set a time following Jaden Harry’s accident with the Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard BMW of Zach Lumsden in Thursday’s second test session.

Harry was deemed “wholly responsible” by the stewards for the accident, which resulted in both cars sustaining terminal damage, and the Flying Lizard-run crew putting its GT America entry into GT4 America action.

Per a stewards’ bulletin, Harry was docked five behavioral warning points and must start his next SRO America race from the pit lane.

Practice 2 is set for Friday at 7:45 a.m. CST, followed by qualifying and the first race of the weekend, which is on tap for a 3:30 p.m. start with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
