Liddy, Harvey Win on Sunday at Road America

Patrick Liddy and Tanner Harvey extended their lead in the McLaren Trophy America Pro championship with overall victory in Sunday’s round at Road America.

Harvey drove the No. 24 Forte Racing McLaren Artura Trophy EVO to the win over the No. 43 Motorsports In Action entry of Alexandra Hainer after the 50-minute race ended behind the safety car for a crash by Fabio Grecco.

While reigning McLaren Trophy Europe champion Michael O’Brien, who qualified on pole, dashed away at the start ahead of Liddy, the mid-race pit stop and driver change saw the top three positions maintained.

However, Harvey managed to pass O’Brien’s Am-classified co-driver Randy Highland for the overall lead with 17 minutes to go.

It marked Liddy and Harvey’s second Pro class win of the season after bouncing back from 13th overall place finish in Saturday’s mixed-condition race.

Hainer and co-driver Jesse Lazare claimed Pro-Am class honors with the runner-up overall finish, with Highland fading to sixth by the checkered flag.

Highland came under heavy pressure from a hard-charging Paul Holton, who ended up fourth overall and third in Pro in his No. 8 Forte entry, behind the No. 65 Hooper Street Racing with OMS McLaren of Robby Stockard and Matt Bell, who finished third overall and second in Pro.

Greystone GT’s Ryan James and Oliver Webb completed the overall top-five, second in Pro-Am, with Highland holding on to a podium finish.

Grecco appeared set to pick up Am class honors until his No. 15 OMS McLaren ran wide in Turn 1 and made contact with the wall and ended up in the Turn 2 gravel with less than five minutes left on the clock, resulting in the race’s only full-course caution.

It handed the Am class win to TechSport Racing’s Colin Harrison, who came home seventh overall in the 18-car starting field.
