Last-Lap Dash Highlights Ferrari Challenge Conclusion at Sonoma

The penultimate event for Ferrari Challenge North America came to a close this weekend at Sonoma Raceway. In Sunday’s races, championship contenders across all classes continued to exert their dominance, setting the stage for success in the upcoming season finale.

It was a perfect weekend for Johnny Kaminskey (Ferrari of Long Island) at Sonoma, finishing with two victories and two pole positions in the Trofeo Pirelli class.

Both wins were by 15 seconds over his next closest competitor, and the teenage driver further extended his championship lead as a result.

On Sunday, Roberto Perrina (Ferrari of Seattle) chased the youngster and settled for second place above Brad Fauvre (Ferrari of San Francisco) in third.

In Trofeo Pirelli Am, Michael Mathes (Ferrari of Central New Jersey) also completed a weekend sweep.

Sunday’s win was Mathes’ fourth in six races while competing in a partial season. Championship leader Mitchell Green (Ferrari Westlake) finished second, advancing a position from the day prior, while Kevin Gutierrez (Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale) added his fourth podium of the season in third place.

Charlie Menard (Twin Cities Performance) escaped a Lap-1 incident to finish first amongst Coppa Shell competitors on Sunday.

It was Menard’s fifth win of the year, and brings him closer to the championship fight with Blake Rosser (Ferrari of San Diego) and Chuck Whittall (Ferrari of Central Florida).

Rosser was caught up in the opening melee, while Whittall finished second ahead of Michael Owens (Ferrari of Alberta) in third.

A last-lap maneuver by Michael Moyes (Ferrari of Seattle) powered the Ferrari Challenge driver to victory in the Coppa Shell Am class.

Moyes and Tim Duit (Ferrari Dallas) traded the top spot multiple times throughout Sunday’s race, and only approaching the checkered flag did Moyes seal the victory.

While Duit finished second by three-tenths, championship leader Melissa Kozyra (Ferrari of Naples) snuck into third place to tally another podium to her season.

Ferrari Challenge concludes its season on North American soil at Road America, taking place from Sept. 9-13. The fan-favorite track welcomes the series for the first time since 2023, and is the final trip prior to Finali Mondiali at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at the end of November.
