Kaminskey Continues to Cruise with Sonoma Race 1 Win

The Ferrari Challenge North America season continues to wind down, and Sonoma Raceway plays host to the penultimate event this sunny weekend in July.

Johnny Kaminskey (Ferrari of Long Island) and Michael Mathes (Ferrari of Central New Jersey) led flag-to-flag in their respective classes to capture the first wins of the weekend around the 2.52-mile circuit.

For Kaminskey – the Trofeo Pirelli championship leader – the young driver has won at each racetrack thus far in 2026, and Saturday’s win was his sixth of the year to extend his points lead.

Ferrari of San Francisco teammates Brad Fauvre and George Grinzewitsch III finished second and third, respectively.

In Trofeo Pirelli Am, Mathes burst back onto the scene with his third win in five races. While running a part-time schedule, Mathes enjoyed a close victory over championship leader Mitchell Green (Ferrari Westlake) in second, and Gregory Hopkins (Foreign Cars Italia) in third.

In similar fashion, Kevin Orsini (Wide World Ferrari) led each lap in the Coppa Shell class for his first victory of the year.

Prior to Saturday’s race, Orsini celebrated a podium at Sebring International Raceway, and he skyrockets in the championship standings as a result of his win.

Ryan Dayton (Ferrari of Washington) also had his best finish of the season in second place, while Charlie Menard (Twin Cities Performance) completed the podium in third.

Coppa Shell Am was the most active battle of the day, as Fabian Sperman (The Collection) inherited the class lead halfway through the 30-minute contest. After five runner-up results this season, it was a break-through victory for Sperman.

He chases title leader Melissa Kozyra (Ferrari of Naples), who placed third on Saturday behind Michael Moyes (Ferrari of Seattle) in his best showing of the year.

Sunday’s activities at Sonoma Raceway begin with qualifying at 9:35 a.m. PT (12:35 p.m. ET), prior to the final races of the event. The Coppa Shell race goes green at 2 p.m., followed by Trofeo Pirelli at 3 p.m.
