Ferrari Completes Initial Test of Possible 499P Evo Upgrades

Four factory Ferrari Hypercar drivers have conducted initial testing at Monza of upgrades that could form the basis of a planned Evo version of the 499P for next season’s FIA World Endurance Championship.

The manufacturer confirmed at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans that it would be using some of the performance jokers that it has available to introduce a heavily revised car for 2027.

The initial steps towards this began at Monza on Tuesday when Antonio Fuoco, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Miguel Molina completed the first laps at the wheel of an updated 499P that Ferrari said featured a “wide range of technical and aerodynamic solutions.”

The manufacturer added in a statement: “This is a step-by-step process that keeps several design options open until final homologation, providing for on-track testing of different configurations as part of the project’s natural evolution.”

Images from the one-day test have been released by Ferrari showing the car in a camouflaged livery to hide the full extent of the alterations.

Despite the comments at Le Mans, the exact number/nature of the jokers being deployed for 2027 is yet to be finalized.

Ferrari has only previously used one joker to modify the 499P since the car entered the WEC in 2023, when it made changes to the brake ducts partway through the 2024 season.

The manufacturer did make some aerodynamic tweaks ahead of the current campaign, but these did not involve the use of any jokers and were only introduced because of the car’s rehomologation over the winter following its first visit to the Windshear wind tunnel facility.

It has been a more difficult season for Ferrari this year after it won both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ WEC titles in 2025, while the 499P’s streak of three consecutive Le Mans victories was ended by Toyota in June.

Ferrari is therefore 44 points behind the Japanese brand in this year’s manufacturers’ standings at the mid-point of the campaign.

But it is understood the potential changes for next year are not in response to any struggles this season and upgrades were long since planned.

Ferrari is not the only manufacturer to have offered a glimpse of 2027 tweaks this week, with Peugeot also in action at Paul Ricard with a revised version of its 9X8.
