Bamber, Persing Claim Road America Poles

Will Bamber and Nick Persing have claimed pole positions for this weekend’s pair of Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America races at Road America.

Bamber, in the No. 33 XONINE Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, reeled off a chart-topping 2:05.784 in Friday’s Q1 to edge out the No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing entry of Hampus Ericsson by 0.112 seconds.

Danny Formal qualified third overall in the Pro-Am class points-leading No. 10 WTR entry, while Dennis Lind was fourth in the No. 29 TR3 Racing entry and Giano Taurino completing the top-five.

XONINE scored a double pole for Race 1, courtesy of Anthony Bullock’s top qualifying run in the Am class, while TB Autosports’ Philippe Touchette scored pole in LB Cup.

Q2 saw Persing, in the No. 1 WTR Lamborghini, record a best lap of 2:067.728 in the second 15-minute session, which was nearly four-tenths quicker than Taurino.

The Pro-Am pole for Race 2 went to Marc Miller in the No. 41 WTR entry, while Bullock and Touchette doubled up in Am and LB Cup, respectively.

The session saw two incidents, but neither resulted in a red flag.

Graham Doyle, in the Race 1 Pro-Am class pole-sitting No. 10 WTR Lamborghini, stopped off course in Turn 5.

The No. 66 Forty7 Motorsports entry of Christopher Koebbe, meanwhile, had a spin in Turn 14 but continued.

Race 1 of the weekend is set for 3:45 p.m. CST, with thhe second 50-minute contest on tap for Saturday at 5 p.m. CST. Both races will stream live on Peacock as well as Lamborghini Squarda Corse and IMSA’s YouTube channels.
