Enzo Trulli, the son of ex-Formula 1 racer Jarno, is set to make his LMP2 race debut after agreeing a deal to join Algarve Pro Racing for the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series season.
The 20-year-old Italian will drive one of the Portuguese team’s two Oreca 07 Gibsons in the six-round series that begins at Sepang in Malaysia on Dec. 13-14.
It follows a recent outing for Trulli aboard an APR Oreca in the post-season European Le Mans Series rookie test at Portimao this month, although his relationship with the team stretches back to the end of the 2024 campaign.
“Already I had a chance to test with the team last year, and I was the quickest, so the team decided to help me,” Trulli told Sportscar365. “I didn’t have the budget to race immediately, so I attended some races to get to know the team and endurance racing.
“Since then, I did ten or 20 laps in every test the team did, just to learn the tracks, and always the lap times were good. Then the rookie test went well, so finally we found an opportunity to race in the Asian Le Mans Series.
“Sepang is a track I know well, and I know the team environment. The main thing will be learning traffic management, so I have been practising on the sim and watching last year’s races. The speed is there, so it’s a matter of gaining race experience.”
APR has yet to confirm its full lineups for the Asian Le Mans Series season, although the reveal of the entry list confirmed that Bronze-rated drivers Kriton Lendoudis and Michael Jensen will stay with the team in the No. 20 and No. 25 cars respectively.
Trulli suggested that a season of European Le Mans Series with APR could be on the cards next season if his Asian campaign proves a success.
“If I perform well in Asia, there is a chance to join the team in ELMS,” he said. “But nothing is decided yet. It depends mainly on the performance.”
After competing in categories such as FIA F3 and Super Formula Lights, Trulli switched from single-seaters to sports car racing in 2024, contesting a season in Italian GT before joining the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia series this year.
He finished runner-up to dominant champion Dylan Pereira with a single victory in the opening race of the campaign at Shanghai.
Trulli expressed a desire to maintain his ties with Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific next year, saying he could combine a season in ELMS with selected outings in Cup or GT3 machinery for the German manufacturer if the chance arises.
He will also participate in the Porsche Junior Shootout at Estoril in November as the representative of Carrera Cup Asia.
